I live on my Chromebook about 80% of the time and rarely find a need to use my PC or MAC. I still haven’t completely “cut the cord” and sold my PC or MAC but I can honestly say there have been weeks where the two haven’t been turned on.
My kids are getting old enough to need a computer to research items for school, access email, etc. I pulled the trigger and purchased a Chromebox and so far couldn’t be happier.
It took about 3 seconds to fire up and get online. Each kid has their own account (with Mom & Dad having email delegate authority of course) so their books, music, email and importantly browsing history are kept separate. I even purchased a wireless (USB dongle) keyboard and mouse to have the option of taking the dongle to prevent the kids from using the computer without permission.
For $200 (I purchased the model with 4gb of ram, the 2gb version is $50 cheaper), this is a great replacement for an “old computer” that needs updating. Use your old monitor, keyboard and mouse and you’re good to go.
On a side note, Amazon Prime absolutely rocks. I ordered the Chromebox around 2:30 in the morning and the thing showed up shortly after 6:00pm the same day!
