From time to time we get questions about what Internet Security Software should be used at home to keep the
parents kids out of trouble.
K9 Web Protection from Blue Coat is a free program you install on your home computer (or iPhone, iPad and iPod!) to manage Internet Security. By manage, we mean the program filters all web traffic and blocks content based on categories, keywords, time of day and more. Here is a list of categories that are included:
The installation process requires a license key that is sent to you after registering your email address. Don’t worry, we’ve installed this program for tons of friends and family and haven’t had any issues with the registered email address being spammed. If you are concerned about it, you can always create a new free email address at Gmail or Yahoo and register with it.
In addition to the filters mentioned above, K9 keeps logs of pages that are accessed and will even sound an alarm (a dog bark no less) if one of the blocked categories is attempted. If you have questions about K9 Web Protection let us know in the comments. Until then safe surfing.
